Uranium Since the 16th Century: Looking Backward and Forward

Tom Zoellner is the author of Uranium: War, Energy and the Rock that Shaped the World (Viking/Penguin), a book reported from five continents. He is also the author of a previous book about diamonds, The Heartless Stone, named a Notable Book of 2006 by the American Library Association, and co-author of An Ordinary Man, the New York Times bestselling autobiography of Paul Rusesabagina, whose actions during the Rwandan genocide inspired the movie Hotel Rwanda. Zoellner has worked as a contributing editor at Men's Health magazine and as a reporter for the San Francisco Chronicle.

To research his book on uranium, Zoellner traveled to uranium-related locations all around the world, including the Shinkolobwe minesite in Congo; the old St. Joachimsthal mines in the Czech Repoublic; Charlie Steen's old mines in Utah; Bob Adams' old mines on the Arizona Strip; the USEC plant in Kentucky; the Areva mines in Niger; the Ranger mine in Australia; the IAEA in Vienna; and some of the Denison properties in Mongolia.  The books covers the relationship between the historical boom-bust cycles and the current Nuclear Renaissance.
